An ancient town on a hill, surrounded by flat plains of agricultural plots, located about 20 mins from Trulli Talily. Ceglie Messapica has been inhabited for over 4000 years and is known as a gastronomic centre.
The town and the local countryside have plenty of restaurants, many of which are known and appreciated even outside the region of Puglia. ‘Divingusto’ is a popular Food and Wine Festival hosted by Ceglie Messapica in July, attracting chefs and culinary experts from all over Italy and beyond.
Wander through its ancient stone streets, between white-washed buildings and stop for a coffee or ice cream in the central piazza whilst you take in the impressive Baroque-style architecture, including an 11th century castle with a huge square-plan tower and the church of San Leucio containing beautiful 17th century furniture.
For centuries it was a strategic provenience, colonized, invaded and conquered by just about every major power of the day…
