Situated on a hill top, nearly 1,500 feet above sea level, the historic centre of Martina Franca is surrounded by stone walls with Renaissance and Baroque gates. It is about 25 mins by car from Trulli Talily.
There are several open spaces with cafés, the largest being Piazza di Roma which has a grand green space in the centre, facing the 17th century Palazzo Ducale.
Whilst visiting Martina Franca we recommend that you try some capocollo, a cured ham that the locals are very proud of.
Every year in late July, Martina Franca hosts the Festival della Valle d’Itria which celebrates opera music
For centuries it was a strategic provenience, colonized, invaded and conquered by just about every major power of the day…
